Day 53 - Skagway, Alaska to Northern Beaver Post, Yukon

Day 53   Saturday, July 30, 2011
By Carl & Chris Findley,  Adventure 10
Skagway, Alaska to Northern Beaver Post, Yukon

I set on the floor of our motor home leaving Skagway for Northern Beaver Post in the Yukon working on my Blog. I probably missed some sights but I wasn’t going to look out or Carl would have had a mess to clean up. We finally made it up the mountain and I was able drag myself up to the couch. Many thanks to Dot Bolton for pictures coming up the mountain.

This was our last trip into the Yukon and as usual it was raining when we got to the border. We took a picture at the sign anyway.

We stopped at the Johnson Crossing Bakery. Very good pastries and fresh baked bread.

A lot of the Caravan stopped at the Yukon Motel and restaurant for lunch. As Ron & Cindy left the restaurant they picked up 2 young men from Belgium who were hitch hiking. They brought them to the briefing and they introduced themselves and told us about their travels. They are going to stay the night in the Robinette RV and travel with them tomorrow to Watson Lake.

The only animals we saw were the statue variety, but Robert & Bet did see a couple of Moose. However the highlight animal sighting was of the human variety. Several members of our group claimed to have seen NAKED bicycle riders. As usual we missed out on all the good sights.

J.W. & Mary Jo had the misfortune to be subject of a random search as they crossed the border. They had to wait outside the RV while the customs agents conducted a search of the inside.

What started out as a boring travel day turned out to have some real highlights. Of course as we arrived at the RV park it was pouring rain and some of us sat in the RV until the rain let up before hooking up our utilities.

That’s all for today.
