Lake Louise to Columbia Icefields

By:  Robert & Bet Delcuze Rig #8

Slept in an extra hour after our late evening excursion down the back road to Banff.  We spotted five (5) elk, a fox, a coyote and a chipmunk.  Arrived back at the RV at 10:30 p.m., just as the sun went down.

We left the campground at 9:45 since we only had 81 miles to travel up the Jasper Icefields Parkway.

This is definitely the Canadian Rockies, each curve or hilltop brought another snow covered mountain to be photographed, then turquoise colored Bow Lake, and next a lake covered with ice 2 inches thick.

Experienced our first bear jam.   Cars and RVs on both sides of the road stopped to get a picture of a black bear.  Gil Hall took these pictures of the black bear and then a grizzly a few miles up the road.

Around the switchback and there was our destination, Athabasca Glacier.  We (57 people) rode this snow coach out onto the glacier for a 20 minute photo op, with snowballs and a drink of pure glacier water.  It was snowing on the glacier, but sunshine with a cold wind blowing at the Ice Centre parking lot where we boon docked for the night
