Wednesday, July 6, 2011 – Day 29
Fairbanks to Denali
By: Ken Carpenter and Karla Rader Rig #5
We left Fairbanks in nice weather about 68 degrees and sunny.
Many of us stopped at Nenana to see the railroad bridge on rollers and to join the Ice Pool. No it is not a pool filled with ice it is a guessing pool where you try to guess the exact minute and second that the ice breaks up on the river. I turned in 2 guesses. It can pay as much as 250,000 dollars and has been a part of Alaska heritage for many years. Nenana is a nice little town and has many shops. I was told that the Ice Cream is very very good there.
Bert and Carol did the Tail Gunning for the day since Spence and Madi are still broken down in Tok. We sure miss them. Maybe they will join us tomorrow.
We caught sight of Mount McKinley (also known as Denali ) in the distance and hope that the view is as nice tomorrow as it is today.
The trip was pretty uneventful as the roads were very good and the sun was high in the sky.
