Day 41 - Seward, Alaska
by: Jill and Art Spierre
Here it is day 41 of our caravan. It does not seem possible that more than two-thirds of our Alaskan trip is already completed.
Today we took a drive to Kenai Fjords National Park to view Exit Glacier. Warm weather ( 60 degrees) melting the mountain snow caused Exit Creek to flood along the access road.
While walking to view the glacier, there were two moose in the creek bed. The two cows lingered briefly and continued on their way.
The panoramic view of the glacier was truly amazing. The glacier descends 2700 feet over its two-mile length.
Several of us tried their hand at salmon fishing from the bank of Resurrection Bay.
Most were successful.
Here is Chris showing off one of his catch.
Looking across the bay Marathon Mountain is visible above the city of Seward. For all you runners, on July 4th people run up that trail that looks like a goat path.
Last year the best time for men was under 45 minutes and the best time for women is under 53 minutes.
Bruce took that climb; however I'm not sure what his time was.
Looking again to mountains surrounding the camp site, as 10 pm approaches, the sun is still shinning in the sky. It is truly beautiful.
Tomorrow promises to bring more beautiful sights and even more adventures.
